

Thomas A. Galib “Giddee,” age 93, of Somerset, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Rosalie F. (Joseph) Galib to whom he has been married for the past 64 years.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Assad and Haboba (Sahady) Galib, he lived in Fall River for many years before moving to Somerset in 1965.
A graduate of BMC Durfee High School class of 1939, he received his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Brown University, a Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Rhode Island and a second Master’s degree from the University of Colorado. A Veteran of the United States Army, he served during World War II as a Private First Class and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters. An Infantryman, he held off a sniper for five hours in Anzio, Italy. He was also a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp in Rutland, VT and built dams and roads.
Mr. Galib was a Mathematician and Head of Computer Information Services at the Naval Underwater Systems Center in Newport for thirty years before retiring in 1981.
He was an active member of St. Anthony of the Desert Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. An avid reader, he enjoyed reading about World War II and poetry. He also liked history, Middle Eastern history, and economics. His best times spent were with his family especially his grandchildren who he adored.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Thomas A. Galib, Jr. and his wife Jean of Portsmouth, RI, Stephen P. Galib and his wife Christine of Lanesborough, MA, Susan G. Klapheke and her husband Michael of Baldwinsville, NY and Nancy M. Galib and her husband Eric Parker of Arlington, VA, one sister: Madaline Joseph of Fall River, eight grandchildren: Linda, Michael, Lisa, Elizabeth, Catherine, Jeremy, Amanda, and Laura, and many nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Martha Abdallah, Elias “Louie”, Emil and Marion Galib.
His Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 9:45am in St. Anthony of the Desert Church, 300 N. Eastern Avenue, Fall River. His family will greet guests prior to his Liturgy from 9:00AM to 9:45AM in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38101. Entombment in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
