

Alfred Ayotte Jr., a resident of New Bedford, passed away on February 13, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on April 13, 1936, in Worcester, he was the son of the late Alfred Ayotte Sr. and Evelyn (Boudreau) Ayotte. Al, affectionately known as "Sonny," had resided in New Bedford since 1980.
Sonny was a dedicated professional, retiring in 2001 from the New Bedford Public Schools Infrastructure Department as a carpenter. His career began at the age of 16 at Arnold Bakers, where he worked for 40 years. A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, Sonny served during the Korean War and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.
He was married to his beloved wife, Lois C. Ayotte, for 48 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five children: Darlene (Muffin) Eager of Leicester, MA; Michael and Joy Ayotte of Cape Neddick, ME; Rhonda and Mark Bradshaw of Palmer, MA; David and Danielle Ayotte of Mashpee, MA; and Susan and Tom Sampson of Leicester, MA. Alfred is also survived by his sister, Fran Ramm of WA; brothers, Frederick Ayotte of MA and William Ayotte of AZ; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, with 2 more on the way; many nieces and nephews, and his special buddy, Morgan Blier. He was predeceased by his sisters, Judy Aucoin and Joyce Prefontaine; goddaughter, Deborah Beleza; and nephew, Carl Aucoin,Jr.
Sonny had a passion for woodworking, creating beautiful dollhouses and woodscapes. His creativity and skill in this craft brought joy to many. He was a kind and caring man, who was always willing to help others.
The family would like to thank Shawnie, Laureen, the staff of Alden Court, and the PCU unit at St. Luke’s Hospital for their loving care and kindness.

A military graveside service and Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 11:00 am in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford. This day would have marked Sonny’s 90th birthday.
