

Born in Dartmouth, a son of the late Arthur J. Mello and Irene (Arruda) Mello, he had resided in New Bedford, Dartmouth and Nantucket before returning to New Bedford 4 years ago.
Mr. Mello worked for Bromley Flooring on Nantucket Island for many years until his retirement in 1993.
He was a member of the Portuguese American Social Club, the Holy Ghost Society of Horseneck and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Dartmouth.
Survivors include his children, Arthur J. Mello, III of Nottingham, NH, Mary Morency of Dartmouth, Alfred J. Mello of Rochester, Jayne Varao of Dartmouth, Christine Windsheimer of Lawrenceville, GA and William Mello of Dartmouth; three sisters, Cynthia Lewis of Dartmouth, Lorraine DeCosta of Acushnet and Noreen Medeiros of Dartmouth; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Donald J. Mello.
Family will receive friends in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 from 9:30-10:30am prior to his Funeral Mass at 11:00am in St. Mary’s Church, 783 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth.
