

Carol (Carney) Veiga, 81, passed away at her home peacefully on January 4, 2023. She leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Joe and a beautiful legacy of love, art and kindness.
She was born in New Bedford, MA, daughter of the late William F. Carney and Eunice (Spach) Carney. She was raised in Dartmouth and was a graduate of Dartmouth High School and Swain School of Design. After graduating, she went on to have a 27- year career with the New Bedford Standard Times, retiring as art director.
Carol had many talents. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, woodcarving, painting and traveling just to name a few. She was a passionate artist and was always eager to start a new project.
She was a loyal supporter and volunteer at the Lloyd Center for the Environment for over 20 years. In 2013, she was the recipient of the George F. Haddock award for her contributions to protecting the coastal environment. She was an active participant in the Center’s annual Clambake. Carol also taught art at the Dartmouth Senior Center. She truly loved all her students and was constantly amazed how talented they were. They became lifelong friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her brother, Daniel N. Carney and his wife Mary of Milton, MA; nieces Beth Shannon and her husband Ken of East Falmouth, MA, Mary Ellen Barlow of Dartmouth, MA, Colleen O’Sullivan and her husband Ciaran of Hingham, MA; nephews, William Carney and his wife Angela of Medway, MA. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Pauline (Gaudreau) Carney and Diane (Veiga) Sullivan and her husband Michael of Dartmouth and their son Michael, his wife Kate and their children Luke and Lily of Wellesley, MA. She also leaves behind her much beloved grand-nieces and nephews, John Paul Tocci, Liam Barlow, Benjamin and Ethan Carney, Mae, Dan Joseph and Fia O’Sullivan. She was predeceased by her brother Robert W. Carney.
