Charles Perry Souza

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John P. and Mary (Perry) Souza. Charlie grew up in Dartmouth then moved to New Bedford for a short period of time. Then made his home with his wife Nancy in Westport.

Mr. Souza was an incredibly talented man. He put his talents to work with his job for the City of New Bedford where he worked as a supervisor. He was responsible for all repairs needed to keep all the vehicles in the city running. He was a skilled tractor trailer driver hauling cranberries for Ocean Spray. Charlie built his own garage and enjoyed helping to build homes and additions for his family and friends.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time in his yard gardening and caring for his birds, he also enjoyed traveling with his wife Nancy.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife Nancy, his brother-in-law, Raymond Rodrigues and his wife Rolande of Westport; a niece, Michelle Miranda of Smithfield, RI; a nephew Frederick Preece of Dartmouth; a god son John Lopes of Portsmouth, RI; his cousin, who was more like a brother, Joseph Lopes and his wife Linda of Westport; a dear family friend, Roy Pinheiro and his wife Susan of Dartmouth. Charlie was the brother of the late Josphine Preece.

His funeral will be Thursday, August 20, 2026 at 9 a.m. at the Waring-Sullivan Home in Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 789 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth.
