

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel and the late Benvinda (Arruda) Roderick, he lived in New Bedford for 45 years before moving to Dartmouth in 1973.
A graduate of Bristol Community College, David worked in his family’s dairy business for 35 years and in advertising at the Chronicle, Gazette and Spectator Newspapers for 33 years. He was remembered as the “Silver Fox” with his crop of white hair.
Mr. Roderick organized a committee to begin preparing plans for a helipad at St Luke’s Hospital and a plaque on the helipad room reads, David Roderick “Pilot”. He served as a docent and tour guide at the Whaling Museum, a Grand Knight at the Dartmouth Knights of Columbus, Deputy Lt. Governor of the New England Kiwanis Club where he was chairman. The Kiwanis Club became active under his direction. He was the Tank Commander in the National Guard, Past President of the New Bedford Kiwanis Club, he was the Chairman of New England Public Relations and the secretary of the Fairhaven Kiwanis Club. He was the Chairman of the Howland Chapter of Retired Vets, Past Hixson Award Member where he served as secretary and volunteered as a Big Brother.
Survivors include his daughter Elizabeth Smith of Saratoga Springs, NY and two sons Mark A. Roderick and Matthew Roderick both of Dartmouth, a brother Richard Roderick of Mattapoisett, a sister Marian Parsons of Bourne and a Godson Richard Parsons. He was the father of the late David Roderick, Jr. and Annemarie Roderick.
His visitation will be held Monday, June 20, 2016 from 8:15-10:15am at the Waring Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Road, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am at St. Mary Church, 783 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth.
