

Dionele “Danny” P. Duarte, 89, of New Bedford passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016, after his long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Roderiques) Duarte for over 67 years.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Jose Paiva and Stella Duarte, he lived most of his life in New Bedford.
Danny served in the United States Army Artillery division during WWII and was stationed in HI. He later worked for the Water Department for the City of New Bedford. He enjoyed a good soccer game and took pride in the Men and Women’s USA teams competing in the World Cup. He also followed NBHS soccer and local soccer teams for greater than 50 years. He enjoyed watching the sports and activities that both his granddaughters participated in. He enjoyed swimming at the beach and dancing to the big band sounds of his youth and always a good laugh, even if it was at his own expense.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Michael P. Duarte and his wife, Lorraine of New Bedford; two granddaughters, Melissa Duarte and her husband, Peter Townsend of CT and Christina Duarte and her fiancé, Robert Plater of NY; two great grandchildren, Charlotte and Reid Townsend; two sisters, Guiomar Sa Vieira of FL, and Jovalina Tarini and her husband, Arthur of Plymouth; a brother-in-law and good friend, Henry Sylvia of Fairhaven; as well as several nieces and nephews and many cousins.
His memorial service will be Friday, April 1, 2016 at 9 a.m. at WARING-SULLIVAN in DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. Military funeral will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, smile, share a laugh or two, dance to a slow tune, be kind to a lonely soul, kiss and hug someone you love and then think of him.
