Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Alfred and Isabel (Lima) Perry, she lived most of her life in New Bedford. Mrs. Barker graduated from the Massachusetts General Nursing School and worked as a licensed practical nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital for several years. She was also a private duty nurse for several years before retiring in the 1960’s.
She was a member of the St. James Senior Group, a social director at the Grinnell Mansion worked with local officials on the skate park and was the unofficial social director at the Atria in Fairhaven.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Cathy Aresta of New Bedford, Sally Wheeler of Dartmouth, and Andrew Menard of Rochester; a step daughter, Carol Patenaude of New Bedford, a sister, Lillian Robinson of Fairhaven; four great grandchildren, Justin and Kelsey Williams and Jason and Kallie Lima; three great great grandchildren Ava Pittsley, Braedyn and Taelor Lima and many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins including Margaret Carter of NY and Gail Lapalme of Acushnet.
She was the mother of the late Joyce Menard, grandmother of the late Leonard Menard and sister of the late Louise Gorman.
Her funeral will be Friday, November 12, 2010 at 8 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 343 Tarklin Hill Rd., New Bedford. Visiting hours on Thursday 5-8PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Bedford. Contributions in her honor may be made to the New Bedford Council on Aging 181 Hillman St. #9, New Bedford, MA 02740.
