Etelvina R. (Rodrigues) Farias, 89 of New Bedford passed away Thursday, August 14, 2025 in Kimwell Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Jose Farias, married in 1958 in Fall River.
Born in Pilar da Bretanha São Miguel, Açores, a daughter of the late Anibal and Delondia (Arruda) Rodrigues she grew up there before coming to America.
Mrs. Farias worked as a seamstress in the garment industry.
She is survived by her children, Beverly Lima and her husband Alvaro of New Bedford, Diane Martins and her husband Armand of Fairhaven, and Jose Farias, Jr. and his wife Donna from S. Dartmouth; grandchildren, Corey Martins and his wife Melanie of PA, Kelsey Fostin and her husband Wayne of Fairhaven, Ian Lima and his wife Rachel of Somerset, and Ryan Farias and his fiancée Celene Pimentel of N. Dartmouth, and Aaron Lima of New Bedford; great grandchildren, Josephine and Mason Martins of PA, Abigail and Andrew Fostin of Fairhaven and Sadie Lima of Somerset; sister, Ana Arruda and her husband Jose of SC; sister-in-law, Maria do Carmo (Arruda) Rodrigues of S. Dartmouth; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Manuel Rodrigues and his wife Mariana, Francisco Rodrigues, Jose Rodrigues, Deolinda deMelo and her husband Jose, and Maria deGloria Rodrigues, and her husband Viriato.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Rivet St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Allen St., New Bedford.
