Fred Thomas Butterworth

Fred Thomas Butterworth, 79, of Dartmouth passed away Saturday, November 8, 2025 in HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. He was the loving husband of the late Diane (Wood) Butterworth with whom he shared 36 years of marriage.

The son of the late Fred A. and Elizabeth F. (Doherty) Butterworth, he was born, and grew up in Lawrence, before moving to Wrentham and N. Attleboro, and finally settling in Dartmouth in 1986.

Fred worked for the Massachusetts Highway Department for 40 years before retiring in 2003.

He and his wife loved spending time with their three grandchildren. He enjoyed RVing with his whole family, and longtime friends. He also loved spending winters in Florida with the love of his life, Diane. He enjoyed traveling, hiking and climbing mountains in New Hampshire and Vermont. He loved all New England sports and saw so many games with his family.

He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Fontaine, and her husband Henry of Bellingham, and Theresa Moorhouse and her fiancé Ken Periera of Westport; three grandchildren, Noel Marra and her husband Jonathan, Kylie Moorhouse and her fiancé Codie Lefevre, and Colby Moorhouse; one great grandchild, Kaylani Lefevre. Siblings, Katherine Raymound and her partner Richard Files of Manomet, William Butterworth and his wife Elizabeth of N. Attleboro, Claire Parlee and her husband David of Cumberland, RI, James Butterworth and his fiancé Jean Gendron of Riverside, RI, Mary Ann Parlee of Attleboro, the late Linda Kallstrom, the late Elizabeth Vacher, and many nieces and nephews.

His visitation will be Friday, November 14, 2025 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Waring-Sullivan Home in Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth, MA 02748. Burial will follow in S. Dartmouth Cemetery, Elm St., Dartmouth. For online tribute/directions: www.waring-sullivan.com.
