Grace M. Silveira

Born in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Portugal, she later migrated to Massachusetts, graduated from New Bedford High School. Grace worked for Beneficial Finance Corp. and banking her entire career. Married to Manuel B. Silveira, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Family was always her greatest joy, especially the weekly “family nights” they shared. Grace enjoyed helping those in need. During its founding year, along side her husband, she served as treasurer for the Immigrants’ Assistance Center. An organization, that has been helping immigrants on the complicated path to citizenship, since 1971.

Grace coming from humble beginnings, took great pride in her fashion, her home, and the moments created within its walls with family, through cooking, music, and great conversations. Though she carried herself with confidence, she remained a grounded and generous woman whose kindness touched many. A few words to describe her would be fire, laughter, comfort, strength and resilience.

She is survived by her loving son, David M. Silveira and his fiancée Jessica Falandys; her cherished grandchildren, Christian D. Gwozdz-Silveira, Logan J. Silveira, Stella Rose Callahan, and Jackson Callahan, all of Dartmouth; her brother, Jorge Medeiros and his wife Natilia Medeiros of New Bedford; her sister, Otilia Rodrigues and her husband Manuel of New Bedford; her god child, Leslie Backschies and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Eduina Barros.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 4:00–7:00 p.m. in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at 8:45 a.m. from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Parish, 1359 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
