

It is with great sadness, that we announce Janet Louise Grassanovich, 82, of Dartmouth, MA, passed away unexpectedly at home on August 5. Born in Stamford, CT on February 15, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Edward Urbanowicz and the late Agnes Yambor Urbanowicz of Stamford, CT.
Janet is survived by her loving husband of almost 60 years, Alex, and her three daughters, Janice Sumner (Christopher), Sheila Grassanovich (Christopher Louro) and Amy MacDonald (Scott).
Janet is also survived by her sister, Sylvia Yagielski of Southbury, CT, her brother, Edward (Jeananne) of Beacon Falls, CT and pre deceased by her sister, Dorothy, of Oxford, CT and survived by a niece and five nephews
Janet was a loving mother and wife, who loved to travel with her family and friends. She adored all of her grand dogs and spoiled them immensely. She loved getting lost in a good book on the beach and was a shopping enthusiast always finding things for others. Her perennial gardens were always admired by all who caught a view. Her numerous daily texts to her family and friends were anticipated and welcomed. She always had time to listen and offer her advice.
Janet attended Stamford High School in Stamford, CT, before graduating from University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT with a Bachelor’s Degree in English and later earned a Masters Degree in Education from Western Connecticut State University. She was a teacher in the Dartmouth school system for over 20 years. Starting as a substitute teacher at Dartmouth Middle School, she then transitioned to a full-time second grade teaching position at Joseph DeMello School in Dartmouth. She always enjoyed running into her past students and catching up with them.
In addition to Round Hill Beach in Dartmouth, Janet loved enjoying the sun in Cape Cod and Florida. Her traveling with family and friends took her to numerous places including Sedona AZ, Cape May, NJ, San Antonio, TX, Charleston, SC, Naples, FL, Albuquerque, NM, as well as Hungary and Portugal. Janet will always be remembered for her fun personality, generosity for others, love of animals and loving life while all “gussied upl”
Given Janet’s love for animals and support of B Free Farm Animal Sanctuary, in Tiverton, RI, donations can be made to this nonprofit, in lieu of flowers.
Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 9:00AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth, MA 02748 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Mary's Church, 795 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth, MA 02745.
