Joan E. Clark Abrantes

Joan E. (Clark) Abrantes, age 81, of Dartmouth, died Saturday, October 15, 2011 in St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late J. Dennis Abrantes.

Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Edward J. and Clarabelle C. (Norton) Clark, she lived in New Bedford for many years before moving to Dartmouth in 1963.

She attended New Bedford Vocational High School and was a Home Health Aide at St. Luke’s Hospital for many years. She also worked at the former Star Store. She was a member of the St. Lawrence Church Couples Club, the Guild at St. Mary’s Home in New Bedford, and volunteered at the Dartmouth Council on Aging.

She is survived by one daughter; Joanne E. Francis and her husband Wally of Dartmouth, two sons; Paul C. Abrantes and his companion Jackie Sylvia of Tiverton and Dennis J. Abrantes of Florida, two sisters; Maureen Price and her husband Ed of Littleton, CO and Patricia Thornber of New Bedford, seven grandchildren; Nicholas, Eric, Alyson, Stephanie, Thomas, Suzanne, and Sarah, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Edward J. Clark Jr. and mother in law of the late Debra Lee Abrantes.

Her Funeral will be held Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 10:00AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at DARTMOUTH 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM in St. Julie Billiart Church 494 Slocum Road, Dartmouth. Visiting hours Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00PM. Contributions in her honor may be made to American Heart Association 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery, New Bedford.
