

Jose A. Serpa, 77, of Dartmouth, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 surrounded by family at home, following a long illness. He was the husband of the late Maria “Berta” Serpa who passed away in September. They were married for 50 years.
Born in Horta, Faial, Azores, son of the late Jaime and Maria deCeu (Fernandes) Serpa, he came to the United States after serving in the military and settled in New Bedford, before retiring in Dartmouth.
Mr. Serpa had been employed at the Acushnet Company in New Bedford for several years.
He served in the Army in Portugal and played soccer internationally for Atletico. He was a member of Clube Uniao Faialense on Orchard St. in New Bedford. He enjoyed going out dancing with his wife and brothers and sisters in law. He loved hamming it up with grandchildren and watching them play sports and spending time with and having dinners with family.
He is survived by his sons, Robert L. Serpa and his wife Angela and Steve L. Serpa and his wife Carla all of Dartmouth; his grandchildren, Koryn, Colby, Nathanial and Kennedy Serpa; his siblings in Portugal, Mario, Hildeberto and Carlos Serpa; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Manuel and Jaime Serpa, Carolina and Roberto.
His Funeral will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Rivet St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday 2-5 p.m.
