Born in São Miguel, Azores, Joe was the son of the late Jose Rocha and Sophia (Loureiro) Vieira. He was the beloved husband of Yvonne Vieira, with whom he shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. Yvonne was truly the love of his life.
Joe proudly served in the Portuguese military before immigrating to the United States. One of his proudest accomplishments was becoming an American citizen in the 1980s.
Joe worked for many years as a skilled mechanic for a local company. Joe was a man of simple joys and deep pride. He loved making his own wine, tending to his immaculate garden, and maintaining a lawn that was the envy of the neighborhood. He found peace at the beach, enjoyed quahogging, and rarely missed a chance to cheer for his beloved Sporting soccer team. Above all, Joe cherished spending time with his family—especially his grandchildren. His warm smile and infectious laugh will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his devoted wife, Yvonne, Joe is survived by his loving children, Sandra and her husband Peter, and Kelly and her husband Robert; his cherished grandsons, Peter-Magnus, Anthime, Aidan, and Harrison; and his adored great-grandchildren, Wesley and Shiloh. He also leaves behind his sister, Alexandria Soares; his sister-in-law, Cecilia Vieira; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Manuel Vieira.
