Ms. Murphy was a 1961 graduate of Dartmouth High School and a 1963 graduate of Chandler School for Women in Boston.
Ms. Murphy made her debut at the 92nd Assembly Association Presentation at Lincoln Park Ballroom in 1961.
Ms. Murphy worked locally for over 25 years as an executive secretary. Before becoming disabled, she was the Executive Secretary to the Executive Director and Board of Directors of the New Bedford Area Center for Women Services Inc. She was also a customer service representative at New Bedford Antiques and most recently worked as a visitor services assistant at the Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum shop in New Bedford.
Ms. Murphy’s greatest pleasure was spending time with her many friends, family and with her ‘best friend’, her cat, Cinderella. She was a life-long lover of cats and had an extensive collection of all types of cat memorabilia. She was an avid reader and could often be found doing a crossword puzzle. Ms. Murphy was also an enthusiastic gardener and her home was filled with plants. She especially loved to play cards and enjoyed playing in the Pitch Leagues at LeBeau’s, Bayside and Freetown VFW. She enjoyed the cut-throat games at the Bayside and Wednesday night cards during the summer at Ed’s Building.
Ms. Murphy is survived by her sister-in-law, Priscilla Brindley of Chicago, IL.; two nieces, Carolyn Shearer of San Francisco, CA., and Jennifer Collias of Wilton, CT.; two nephews, Ward Murphy and John Murphy, both of Seattle, WA. and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. Ms. Murphy was the sister of the late Gerald H. Murphy.
There will be no calling hours, at her request. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 783 Dartmouth St. in South Dartmouth on Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the South Dartmouth Cemetery.
