

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late James H. and Ellen (Pomfret) Taylor, he was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Taylor was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific aboard the USS Shenandoah as a Machinist Mate 2nd class. He worked as a firefighter for the New Bedford Fire Department for 30 years before retiring in 1977. For 7 years after retirement, he was a Machine Shop Instructor for the C.E.T.A. Skill Center program at the old New Bedford Vocational School.
He was a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church where he served on vestry, was a Lay Reader, Eucharistic Minister and served communion monthly to residents at Brandon Woods and other Nursing Homes. He was a retired member of the Local #841 Firefighters Association, the American Legion, the Low Tide Yacht Club, and Friendship Sloop Society. He was also a past Master Councilor in the Order of DeMolay, member of Quittacus Lodge A.F.+A.M., Abraham Howland Jr. Lodge A.F.+A.M. and a 32nd Degree life member of the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed furniture making, dancing, camping, traveling, and swimming.
He is survived by two sons: Thomas C. Taylor and his wife Colleen of San Diego, CA, and Richard J. Taylor and his wife Patricia of New Bedford.
