Linda M. (Cambra) Quirk, age 69, of Dartmouth, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Robert Quirk with whom she shared 50 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Louis Gregory and Julia (Calheta) Cambra.
Linda was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1971, and St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1974.
Linda worked in the Emergency Room at St. Luke’s Hospital beginning in 1974 for many years until her last few years in which she worked in clinical quality assessing emergency department quality improvement at all three Southcoast Hospitals. She was also involved in volunteer organizations over the years serving as a host family for the New Bedford Bay Sox, Miss Massachusetts, and later helped with running local pageants for the Miss America organization. Her family used to joke that in retirement she became Bob’s personal financial advisor.
Linda’s family was her pride and joy and going on family vacations to Walt Disney World. She enjoyed watching all kinds of game shows like Wheel of Fortune and all the old classic T.V. shows! She and Bob attended many plays and concerts throughout the years, and they always loved listening to her favorite song “Penny for your Thoughts” by the Tavares. She loved keeping up with New England sports but was an especially avid Red Sox fan. Linda touched many hearts, and she will be deeply missed all who had the privilege to know her.
Linda’s family would like to thank Dr. Craig Longo, the Emergency Room staff, ICU Dr. Michael Barretti, NP Kevin Leblanc, and RNs Nicole and Miranda, all from St. Luke’s Hospital for their exceptional care during her last 36 hours. Each one tried everything they could to save her life while showing tremendous compassion and care to all of us through the entire time.
In addition to her loving and devoted husband, Robert, she is survived by her three children, Tara Kohler and her husband Greg of Fairhaven, Jamie Quirk and his fiancé Jessica Mulroy of Dartmouth, and Aaron Quirk and his wife Jenny of Weymouth, MA; 14 grandchildren, Alecs and his wife Vanessa, Jordan, Carl, Kelsey, Gretchen, Mia, Paxton, Jayden, Landon, Addison, Ashton, Weston, Declan, and Hudson; 4 great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Averie, Jaxton, and Levi; 2 sisters, Sandra Zager and her husband Jerry of Freetown, and Sharon Souza and her husband Carl of Fairhaven; Sister-in-law Maureen Freitas and her husband Izzy; 7 nephews; Nyles, Jared, Gregory, Daniel, Scott, Chris, and Jake; while she is survived by many cousins, she shared a special bond with her cousin, Wayne Perry.
