Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Jose and Maria (Fernandes) Ferro, he had resided in Dartmouth for over 50 years.
A United States Army Veteran, Mr. Ferro served during the Korean War and was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.
Mr. Ferro worked at his family’s business, Willow Tree, for many years until it was sold. He then became a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 25 years until his retirement. For 35 years, he was a proud member of the Dartmouth District 1 Fire Department. He had received a Fire Science Certificate from Bristol Community College.
Paul was a member and Past President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and recipient of the Top Hat Award, a member of the Knights of Columbus Damen Council, a Feast of the Blessed Sacrament committee member, a recipient of the Marian Medal from the Fall River Diocese and a Eucharistic minister and leader at St. Mary’s Church. A race car enthusiast, Paul was known as “Tiny Ferro” at the Seekonk Speedway when he owned and raced his car #137.
Surviving in addition to his beloved wife Dolores, a daughter Deborah A. Turcotte and her husband Erick of Dartmouth; three grandchildren, Amanda Leigh Neto and her husband Kyle of New Bedford, Adam Paul Escobar and his wife Kelly of N. Carolina and Abbey Marie Escobar and her fiancé Justin Pacheco of Dartmouth; two great-grandchildren Ava Marie Pedro and Jacob Paul Neto; three sisters, Margaret Alves and her late husband Carl of Dartmouth, Sr. Cecilia Ferro and Sr. Mary Ferro of Staten Island, NY; two brothers, Jose Ferro and his wife Alice of Dartmouth and George Ferro and his wife Norma of Mansfield; three sisters-in-law, Frances, Paula and Elsie Ferro; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Gilbert, John, Noe and Jacintho Ferro and Anibal Ferro and his wife Jennie.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 11am at St. Mary’s Church, 783 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Mary’s Church, 783 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth, MA 02748.
