Born in Acushnet, he was the adopted son of Noel and Leda (Benoit) Couture and son of Joseph and Dorothy Roy. Phil was a 40 year over the road long-haul truck driver, working for various companies. He was a US Air Force veteran having served in the Vietnam Conflict. He received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Phil envisioned himself a “weekend lumberjack” and enjoyed going to the farm to clear and cut wood. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife; a step-daughter, Sheri Houle and her husband, John, a step-son, Shawn Teser, and three step-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Lindsey Houle and Devyn Teser, all of Dartmouth; two sons, Jeffery and Christopher Couture; other grandchildren; three brothers, Leon Couture of Fairhaven, Gilbert Roy of Sebring, Fla., and William Roy of Wareham; a sister, Louise Mello of Riverside, Calif.; nieces, nephews, and many good friends.
His visiting hours will be Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, 5-7:30 PM with a brief service to follow at 7:30 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Homes of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., South Dartmouth. Memorial Contributions in his honor may be made to, Southcoast Hospice, 200 Mill Rd., Suite 120, Fairhaven, MA 02719. According to his wishes he will be cremated.
