

Victor J. Morris, age 78 of Dartmouth, MA passed away Monday, June 13, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Cynthia G. (Gomes) Morris to whom he had been married for 50 years.
Born in Harwich, MA the son of the late William J. and Olivia (Fernandes) Morris, he attended Fairhaven High School and was a graduate of New Bedford High School. He has been a resident of Dartmouth since 1975. Mr. Morris was employed as a Merchant Seaman for many years and worked for Woods hole, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Steamship Authority and retired 15 years ago. He was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Morris was the President of the Merchant Mariners Social Club, member of the Past Time Club, Exxon/ Mobil Retirees Club, the Union Lodge #4 of New Bedford and past member of the 9-18 Golf Club. He enjoyed golf, jazz music and anything that involved the ocean.
Survivors include two sons Victor J. Morris II and his fiancée Nelsa Fortes both of Port St. Lucie, FL, Derek S. Morris of Dartmouth, MA and Steven Goldstein of Berkley, MA who had close ties with the family. He also leaves a grandson Kyle J. Morris, his fiancée, Kelly Miller and great-grandson Tyler Morris all of Illinois, a beloved sister Irene (Morris) Livramento of New Bedford , Marilyn Gonsalves a sister-like figure and his aunt Mildred Lopes as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Morris was the brother of the late Emelia Lopes and William J. Morris, Jr.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at the International Church of the Nazarene 278 Pleasant St., New Bedford. Visiting hours Friday from 4 to 8 pm in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT DARTMOUTH 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth.
