Adele R. Lundquist of South Yarmouth passed away on July 23rd. She was the beloved wife of the late George W. Lundquist for 63 years. She is survived by daughters Cheryl Morgan of Cotuit and Susan Lundquist (Chuck Margeson) of Sandwich and son George W. Lundquist Jr (Anna C. Burke) of Coffee Creek, CA. She also leaves behind grandchildren Kristen Margeson (Evan Gouzie) and Matthew Margeson, and great grandchild Remy Gouzie. She also leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
Adele was born on August 28, 1925, in Manchester, CT, the only child of the late Georges and Anna Gerard Reideman. She graduated from Manchester High School. She then attended the Art School of Fashion in Hartford, CT. after which she designed women’s suits for a tailor shop in Hartford. She later worked at Pratt & Whitney Division of United Aircraft, trained and employed as a draftsperson for aircraft engines during World War II. She often said, “I drew them and he flew them” in reference to her then future husband, George Lundquist, who served in the Army Air Force during WWII.
Adele and George were married in 1948 and eventually moved to Orange, CT where they raised their family. After George retired in 1988 from United Illuminating, they moved to Brewster, MA.
While living on Cape Cod, Adele was a parishioner at Our Lady of the Cape Church and a member of the Ladies Guild. She worked at the Church Thrift Shop for 22 years, where she quite possibly purchased more items than she sold. Her love of thrift shops and yard sales was legendary.
She was an active member of Brewster Women’s Club and the “Red Hats Cranberry Tarts of Brewster”.
She and George were members of the Vineland Lodge #703 Vasa Order of America; she served there as Chaplain, Assistant Secretary, Cultural Leader and Trustee.
Adele was a resident of Thirwood Place for the past 7 years where she enjoyed making friends and an active lifestyle. She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, thrift stores and yard sale shopping.
Burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund (needyfund.org) in her memory, or the charity of your choice, would be welcome.
