Barbara Ann Saltmarsh

February 5, 1952July 5, 2021

Barbara Ann Saltmarsh, 69, of East Dennis, embraced in love by her daughter, sister and soulmate at her side, passed away after a brief illness.

Born in Roxbury, Ma to the late George R. Saltmarsh and Mary (Locurto) Saltmarsh, Barbara worked in finance since she was fifteen years old. Starting out as a bookkeeper and eventually retiring as an accountant/controller, Barbara was a computer whiz and excellent with numbers. She was everyone’s IT person, oftentimes coming to their rescue.

Barbara met the love of her life, Robert Christy, in Boston in 1983. He and Pepper, Robert’s nickname for Barbara, relocated to Dennis, Cape Cod in 1995, where she became a member of the Dennis Golf courses. Barbara enjoyed playing golf with her friends and her family, often bragging about being a lefty. Barbara enjoyed spending winter months in Florida with Robert playing golf and enjoying the sunshine.

Besides golf, Barbara enjoyed gardening, music, coffee, trivia, reading and helping others. She especially enjoyed embarrassing her daughter with her slick dance moves, and singing ability. She loved to laugh with the people that mattered most.

Barbara had an incredible work ethic that she passed along to her family. She was always looked upon as the family matriarch and many times friends and family would turn to her for wisdom.

Barbara is survived by her partner and soulmate, Robert Christy of Dennis, Ma, her sister and best friend, Mary Ellen (Meg) McMillen of Quincy, Ma, her brother, James FitzPatrick of Reading, Ma, daughter, Maryellen Fabiano-Stowe (Richard) of Brewster, Ma, daughter Robin Zahner (Larry) of Sagamore Beach, Ma, daughter, Roberta Miller of California, son, Robert Christy, Jr. of Dedham, Ma and was predeceased by her brother, Leonard Saltmarsh, sisters Teresa Saltmarsh Flanagan, and Valerie Saltmarsh Crisman, and her son, Nicholas Fabiano. She is also survived by her grandsons, Jack, Hunter and Ethan, all of whom she loved dearly as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Barbara was always devoted to family.

Barbara’s family wishes to extend their extreme gratitude to the VNA Hospice care team, in particular the staff at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, Ma, where they provided comfort and peace to Barbara in her final days.

Visiting hours will be between 4 pm and 7 pm on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134, South Dennis, Ma 02660. Memorial Service will be privately held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to either the Jimmy Fund Cancer Research or Autism Speaks, both organizations that were extremely important to Barbara.
