David Wynot Lammers, age 75, of South Dennis, peacefully passed away surrounded by family and his kitty, Connie, on January 16, 2025. He was born on January 11, 1950, in Braintree, Massachusetts, and lived a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure.
David was predeceased by his longtime companion and the love of his life, Paula Humphrey of South Dennis, whose memory he cherished deeply.
He is survived by his daughter, Andrea Lammers, and her longtime partner, Seth Peabody, along with his beloved grandchildren, Emily Sue Peabody and Maverick William Peabody, whom he adored. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Jennifer Keane, and her husband, Peter Keane, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Emma Mills Keane and Harrison David Keane, who brought him great joy. David was the loving brother of William “Billy” Lammers and his wife, Rita, and the beloved uncle of Kristina Brown of Ocala, Florida.
In addition to his family, David will be deeply missed by his right-hand man and dear friend, Arthur Young of West Dennis. David and Arthur spent countless hours together working, driving around in his truck, and sharing lunches. Their friendship was one of a kind.
David graduated from Braintree High School, where he was a dedicated cross-country runner, and later attended Rhode Island College, studying furniture design and construction. As a young man, he spent summers in Popponesset, fishing, hunting, boating, and raising a little hell with his brother, Billy. He was a longtime employee of the Popponesset Inn, where he primarily worked as a bellman but was always ready to pitch in wherever needed.
Upon graduation, David taught auto mechanics at Milton High School, following in the footsteps of his mother, a grade school teacher. However, his true passion was working with wood and building, which led him to Cape Cod to continue working with his Uncle Harold, as he had during his college summers. Listening to “Little Deuce Coupe” by The Beach Boys, he packed up his cherry red 1972 Nova SS—one of the last true muscle cars—with tools and settled into a small basement apartment in West Dennis with a view of Bass River.
David was known for his vibrant personality and love of storytelling, with his mischievous tales bringing joy to everyone around him. His legacy of kindness, humor, and devotion to family will be cherished by all who knew him. A master craftsman, he was one of the most talented carpenters the Cape had seen in decades. He was also the world's most devoted cowboy-westerns show connoisseur and, without a doubt, one of the greatest Rummy 500 players ever known.
When he wasn’t working, David and Paula loved traveling the world together. Whether on one of their many Christmas Tree Shop employee trips, family vacations, or their unforgettable journey to Africa, every adventure was filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in South Dennis. Following the service, family and friends will gather to celebrate David’s life at O’Shea’s Olde Inn in West Dennis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in David’s honor.
David will be deeply missed, but his spirit, stories, and craftsmanship will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
