Diane Marie Proia (née Frangioni), 75, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, MA. She was the wife of John Lewis Proia, with whom she shared 29 loving years of marriage.
Diane was born on July 30, 1947, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She was the first child and daughter of Spartaco Louis Frangioni and Josephine Frangioni (née Pettinato). Diane grew up living on Baker Street in Belmont, MA, and graduated from Belmont High School in 1965. Prior to her retirement, she had a long career working as a Legal Secretary.
Diane was a lifelong, voracious reader and loved spending time at the beach. She was known for her delicious cooking, especially the meatballs and Sunday sauce she prepared for her family and friends. In her spare time, Diane enjoyed watching true crime dramas, buying gifts for her family, and the occasional casino visit. Most of all, Diane was thoughtful, generous, outgoing, and had a wonderful sense of humor. To say she will be greatly missed by all those who knew her is an understatement; we are devastated to lose her but also incredibly blessed to have had her bright light in our lives for as long as we did.
A devoted wife and mother, she is survived by her husband, John L. Proia, and her three children and five grandsons: Currie Wicker Gauvreau and his wife Denise and their two sons, Currie Michael and Christopher John; Daniel Robert Gauvreau and his wife Jennifer and their two sons, Evan Joseph and Ryan Daniel; and Karen Marie Minassian (née Gauvreau) and her son Logan Jake. She is also survived by her step-daughter Traci Faeth and her daughter Emily Marie as well as by her step-son John Proia Jr. In addition, she is survived by her two younger sisters, Janice Ford and Mary Ellen Morrow. Family was always at the center of Diane's life, and she leaves behind many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews!
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, April 1st, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Rt. 134, South Dennis. A prayer service will take place directly following the visitation. Interment will be held in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Rt. 134, South Dennis, with a reception to follow at the Eagle’s Nest Restaurant and Lounge at the Dennis Highland Golf Course, 825 Old Bass River Rd., Dennis, MA 02638.
