Donald R. Villa

March 1, 1964June 10, 2020

Donald Richard Villa passed away unexpectedly on June 10, 2020 at his second home on his beloved Cape Cod. Born in Glens Falls, NY on March 1, 1964 to William and Sarah Villa, he was the youngest of four children. Don met the love of his life, Denise Dufresne, at Glens Falls High School where he graduated in 1982. He married his beloved Denise the next year, a love story that was destined to be. In February 1984, they welcomed his pride and joy, and only son into the world, Michael William.

Don was not your average man. He gave people chances, when others would have otherwise turned their backs on them. He was a gentle giant that was always good for a laugh. Don was an early mover in hosting Pampered Chef parties for the guys, comfortably hosting these parties starting in his 30s. Don’s love of Cape Cod was surpassed only by his love for his family. We will miss sharing raw bar goodies and Harp beer at The Old Squire Inn in Chatham. We will miss his honest presence on the Captain’s Golf Course, where he expressed his in-the-moment feelings in a committed and perhaps unintentionally comical way. We will miss his unique approach to the game of Euchre. We will miss his loving nature, and the joy he emitted when spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Don was predeceased by his parents, and nephew Steven White.

Left to carry on his legacy is his wife of 37 years, Denise of Queensbury/Cape Cod, and their son Michael of Queensbury; his Uncle Donald Graham of Savoy, IL; Aunt Barbara Bardin of Queensbury; his sisters Sara Beth Villa, and Judy Villa-White and her husband Steve White; a brother Mark Villa and his wife Pam both of Queensbury/Florida; several nieces and nephews, Jared, Emily, and Jonathan White, and Mark Anthony and Megan Villa, as well as several cousins. Don is also survived by his in-laws, Lou and Jackie Dufresne of Cape Cod; a sister-in-law Diane Richmon and husband Mike of Richmond, VA and children Courtney and Rachael; his brothers-in-law Denis Dufresne and his wife Shannon of Westchester, NY, and their sons Jack, Sean, and Connor; David Dufresne and his wife Ellen of Naperville, IL and their children Andrew and wife Taylor, Corey and Gabrielle, Dan Dufresne and his wife Samantha of Glen Ellyn, IL and children Jake, Luke, Ryan, Liam, Noah, Owen and TBA.; as well as his grandniece Tyler Marie of Richmond VA and grandnephew Connor of Glens Falls.

It was Don’s wish not to have calling hours or a burial plot. As of this time, the family has not arranged for a memorial service. In lieu of donations and flowers, please just take time to watch a sunset and let your only worry be the tide reaching your chair.

I love you buddy and will miss your earthly presence; your laughter! You had a big heart and showed such concern and generosity for others! I believe you are at peace, but know you too well to rest. You'll travel in light guiding all you loved with messages from the universe. There's a line from a cheesy western where Billy The Kid says, " So you got 3-4 good pals, well then you got yourself a tribe. There ain't nothing stronger than that". There was not a tribe stronger! Kinship formed in our youth that neither time nor distance could weaken, no matter how much time there was between being together, we'd pick up like it was yesterday. Those will always be some of the best times to rewind my life on!

Don will be deeply missed here at Lakeview Drive in Queensbury. He was a caring friend and neighbor, always willing the lend a hand or offer some helpful advise. We’ll miss seeing Don across the street working around his house and manicuring his perfect lawn, or taking a moment to relax on the front porch with Denise. Don’s unique friendship with our two children was fun to watch. They played baseball games in “Don’s Field” and had snacks on the porch. We admired Don’s patience with them. It’s heart breaking for us that he will not be here to continue that friendship with them. A few weeks ago John told us Don was his best friend. It takes a kind, caring, patient and genuine person to be a best friend in the eyes of a 5 yr old. That was Don.

With Love,

Tom, Ryan, John and Camryn Girard

Good morning Don
37 yrs ago God gave us the best gift ever Being a son-in-law.
Loving and caring husband to Denise father to Michael.
For the past 8yrs you have helped Lou being my caregiver
Your constant concern about my safety as in
*always making sure I had my cane close by
**safely getting out of the car and into house
***cooking meals each weekend with Denise making sure there was enough for us to freeze for later They didn’t think I was eating enough. As well as giving Lou a break from preparing meals
****Could-always depend on you, Don being our ‘handy man’ when needed.
*****Our weekend Eucher game always gave us many laughs
*****God’s plan was to carry you in the Palm of his hands and continue His work in heaven.
Never forget Don, As I ‘ve told you many times ‘I’ll ALWAYsLOVEYOUMORE’

Rest In Peace ⛪️

Your love for Denise, for Michael, for your extended family and for Cape Cod was something I always admired. I wish I had told you that.
When we were last together on Cape I remember during one of our talks thinking to myself how proud I am of you and I love the genuine, caring and loving person you are. I wish I had told you that.
Watching you with Mom and Dad and how you are protective and always offering to help warmed my heart and reassured me they were in good hands with you and Denise. You are an amazing son-in-law, I wish I had told you that too.
You are an awesome uncle to Courtney and Rachel, like another father figure. The girls learned so much from you and looked forward to beach weeks with you. I wish I had thanked you more for treating them like your own.
You left Denise way too soon and it’s heartbreaking.
You will always be with us and watching over us. You will forever be in my heart.
Love you brother,

Denis & Brita Chagnon

Don Villa - a genuine man.

I gained another big brother when I met you at age 7. There are no words to express how deeply I love you and the impact you made on my life. We shared countless great times and long talks, but in reflection what I remember most is your picking me up those times I fell down and needed you most.

Character is defined by one’s actions when no one is looking. Dozens of pictures you sent me of your Godson Ryan’s name carved in the beach over the years tell us everything we need to know about yours. You started those when Ryan had some health challenges at age 2 and you continued ever since. While these were private acts of kindness and love, I share your last installment here for all to see from just days ago which you and Denise sent with a note simply saying “Good morning from Cape Cod”.

Devoted husband, father, godfather, uncle, colleague, mentor, friend, and BROTHER. Your light on this earth was extinguished far too early, but will burn brightly and shine forever through every life you touched.

Sam, the boys, “TBA”, and I will work hard to continue to make you proud.

Rest In peace, my brother, with your toes in the sand.
