

She was the wife of the late Ralph Cipolla, Jr. (Colonel, U.S. Army) to whom she married on April 16, 1944. She was preceeded in death by her parents Forrest and Winifred (Deal) Hatch and her husband Ralph.
Doris was born on September 14, 1918 in Greenview, Illinois to the late Forrest and Winifred (Deal) Hatch. She graduated from Monmouth College, Monmouth, Illinois with a degree in education. As a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity she spent many years teaching at the Pi Beta Phi Settlement School in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Her career included Park Naturalist at Starved Rock State Park, Oglesby, Illinois and teaching. When she became an Army wife she lived abroad in France and Germany finally returning to Washington, D.C. In 1972 Doris and Ralph retired to Cape Cod. Doris, along with Ralph were involved in various community affairs.
Doris is survived by her two daughters Dena Cipolla Breton and her husband Jeffrey of Oakland, Maine and Leslie Cipolla and her partner Tom Paulus of Manchester by the Sea, Massachusetts. A granddaughter, Megan Breton Brooks and her husband Jeremy of Waterville, Maine and a great grandson, Baxter Brooks of Waterville, Maine. In addition Doris shares her love with Mary Ann McGrath, Kara and Michael Slade, Kelly and Matt Turner, Kori and Jonathan O'Leary along with Lincon, Mason, Lily and Declan. She also leaves behind many dear friends and neighbors who were very special to her. The family would also like to thank the caregivers of the Visiting Nurses of Cape Cod for their kindness and compassion.
Doris was an enthusiastic organizer of lists and people. With her clipboard at her side she was always ready. She had a great passion for the Boston Red Sox (usually making it through the first pitch) and many game nights at her home or the home of neighbors. She was a member of the Historical Society of Yarmouth and the Friday Club. She will be remembered for the Chilly Dip that took place every January 1st at Gray's Beach in Yarmouth Port, which she was excited to take part in this year. Doris always looked forward to getting together every Monday with “The Hookers” (it's not what you're thinking) and will be with them in spirit.
Visitation will take place from 4pm – 7pm on Monday, May 4th at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134,South Dennis. Burial will take place on Tuesday, May 5th at 11 AM at the National Cemetery in Bourne. A memorial service will be held at a later date and all will be welcome to attend to celebrate Doris' life.
Everyone who remembers Doris is asked to celebrate her life in their own way, raising a glass of their favorite drink in her memory would be very appropriate. In lieu of flowers, Doris would hope that you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone less fortunate or a donation may be made to Hyannis Animal Hospital 102 Ansel Hallet Road, West Yarmouth, MA 02673, for Dr. Venezia's many years of care and friendship to the all of the Cipolla pets (Peter, Joe, Tom, John, Shine, Stubby, Mary Francis, Patches, Sandy, Molly, Pepper, Bengy, Jigs and probably a few more).
