
Doris Eileen (Wogatzke) David, born on February 7, 1937, in Schenectady, New York, passed away on September 17, 2025, at the age of 88. She was the devoted daughter of the late Edwin William and Zelma (Oakes) Wogatzke and the cherished wife of Robert "Bob" David, with whom she shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. Doris was a dedicated mother and community member, leaving behind a legacy of love and service.
Doris attended high school in Schenectady, New York, before earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University and a Master of Science in Education from the State University of New York at Oneonta. Her passion for education led her to a fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher in Jacksonville, Florida, Schenectady, New York, and Needham, Massachusetts.
Doris was also a valued member of the United States Power Squadron (USPS), where she played a supportive role in her husband's responsibilities as Vice President and President of the National Boating Federation and the European Boating Association. She served as a gracious hostess at district conferences in Chattanooga, Wilmington, and Cape Cod, and hosted National Boating Federation Meetings at the Hyannis Yacht Club. As a function of the boating organizations, together with Bob, she explored over 30 countries, a passion that continued well into their retirement.
Doris’ life was enriched by her community involvement. She was a Girl Scout and later became a Girl Scout leader, contributing to their headquarters in Delaware. She also contributed her time to the West Dennis Free Library and worked at the West Dennis polls during elections for many years.
During her personal time, she enjoyed cross-stitching and reading.
Doris’ family was the center of her life, in addition to her husband Bob, she is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Jean Gower and her husband Ronald of Claymont, Delaware, and Deborah Irene Ottenthal and her husband Keith of Newark, Delaware. She was a proud grandmother to Emily Ottenthal.
Doris’ life was marked by devotion, love, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 25, at 2:00 PM at Dennis Union Church, 713 Main Street (Route 6A), Dennis, MA 02638. A private committal service will be held at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue in Bourne, MA.
