Dorothy A. Aupperlee passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017, at age 90, after a long, loving and caring life. Dorothy was born in Astoria, NY to her parents, Frank and MaryAnn McLocklin, on August 10, 1927. She was predeceased by her siblings, Frances, Grace and Marylou and is survived by her brother, Richard.
Dorothy moved to Cambridge as a child and worked at Harvard University Press until moving to S. Dennis, Cape Cod, in 1964. Dorothy then worked at the Dennis Water Dept. as a secretary until she retired in 1992. In her “retirement”, she did volunteer work by taking elderly people to doctor’s visits or hospital appointments. She also started working at the South Dennis Public Library volunteering her time and even becoming their president. She was an avid reader and enjoyed a good book and a cup of tea. She loved all animals and especially her cats. She took in strays and her last “babe”, Cozy, was a Hurricane Katrina rescue cat.
She leaves behind many nieces and nephews scattered all over the country. She also leaves behind her many friends who meant the world to her, especially Dottie & Dave, Judy & Jim, Paul & Mona and Gladys. Dorothy is survived by her son, Michael J. Aupperlee, his wife, Sandra, and their daughters, Cara Dorothy Meneses (and husband, Paul) of Cotuit and Rebecca Susan Ladd (and her husband, Teddy) of Marstons Mills. She is also survived by her great grandson, Alden Michael Ladd, who was able to get Dorothy’s last big smile to cherish forever.
Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm at Doane, Beal & Ames, 729 Rt 134, S Dennis, MA.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy would love donations to be made to a no-kill shelter.
