Born in Somerville Ma October 15th, 1919 to the late Burt and Lillian (Reardon) Dares. Dorothy was one of six children and she is survived by her youngest sister Eleanor Healey of North Reading, MA.
Dorothy lived in Bass River for more than 70 years. A hard worker, Dorothy did not retire until the age of 75. As much as she worked Dorothy always found time for her hobbies. She enjoyed digging for old bottles on Cape Cod, watching tennis and reading. She was an accomplished cook specializing in pies and pastries and was also a diehard sports fan of the Bruins, Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics. Dorothy traveled extensively to many countries, took several cruises and visited many states from Maine to Hawaii. Dot was best known for her beautiful blue eyes and wonderful smile. Dot’s passion for dancing kept her moving right up to the age of 93, doing the swing, jive and jitterbug. You name it, she danced it. You could hear her always saying “I’m going to live-live-live until I die.”
Dottie is survived by her three daughters; Patricia Garabrant of Yarmouth Port, MA, Sheila Stackhouse and spouse Dale Cotter of Bass River, and Lilla Laffey and her husband Keith Laffey of Brewster, MA. Dottie is also survived by her grandsons; Arthur R. Garabrant III and Seth Laffey as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Cape Cod Hospital North 3A and to Beacon Hospice for their caring help.
Services for Dorothy will be held on Saturday August 13t from 4:00p-5:30p with a memorial service to follow at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home 729 Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660.
