Elizabeth M. Carrier

Betty was born in Pawtucket, RI, raised in Burrillville, RI and graduated as Class President of Burrillville High School. She went on to be a very proud graduate of the nursing school at Massachusetts General Hospital where she was a member of the US Cadet Nurse Corps. She married her husband Lou, and lived in Providence before moving to the Cape in 1972. She worked for many years as a nurse educator and was a founding instructor of the nurse aide program at Cape Cod Community College. A scholarship fund was established in her name at the college following her retirement.

Betty was married for 56 years to Louis R. Carrier. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Cape Church and St. John the Evangelist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Guild and also served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed attending games in Boston as well as Fort Myers. She loved taking long walks on the beach, flower gardening, crafts and attending the Boston Symphony.

Betty's greatest satisfaction came from raising her family; she often remarked that the time spent caring for her young children was the happiest time of her life.

She is survived by her husband and eight children, Mary Beth and Jeff Goldman of Duxbury; David and Lily Carrier of Ada, Michigan; Mark and Cheryl Carrier of Reston, VA; Kristine and David Cleary of Marshfield; John and Karen Carrier of Wakefield; Laura and Hal Horvat of Cranston, RI; Louis and Beth Anne Carrier of Hopkinton; and Timothy Carrier of Denver, CO. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 26, 2010 at 11am at Our Lady of the Cape Church on Stony Brook Road in Brewster. Burial will follow the mass at Oakridge Cemetery, South Dennis. Friends and relatives are invited to call at Doane, Beale and Ames, Route 134, South Dennis, on Friday morning from 9-10am. A memorial Mass will be said at St. John the Evangelist in Naples in April.
