

Evelyn Banks, 88, died January 9, 2011 with family at her side. Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late John and Zulmira (Souza) Alves. She resided all but the last six years of her life in Taunton at which time she came to live with her daughter in West Barnstable.
Following graduation from Taunton H.S., she graduated from the Bristol County Business School and became an outstanding secretary. Evelyn held several secretarial positions throughout her lifetime and met her husband, Albert, while working at City Hall in Taunton in the Auditor’s office. They were married for 44 years until his death in 1989. Evelyn was devoted to her family and her family was the main focus of her life.
She was a Girl Scout leader, enjoyed playing the piano and joined the Holy Rosary Society of St. Anthony’s Church in Taunton. She will be remembered as a quiet, happy, and sweet lady with a warm smile. She loved her yearly trips to Cape Cod with her family. A loving daughter, she was a caregiver for her mother for 9 years. In her retirement, Evelyn was known to be the organizer and driver when she spent time with friends. The Cape was one of her favorite destinations.
She is survived by a son, Douglas A. Banks of Taunton, three daughters, Beverly Viglione and husband Vincent of Chelmsford, Carolyn Banks of W. Barnstable, and Kimberly Stone and husband Charles of Lowell. She also leaves two grandchildren, Jamie (Viglione) Lane and her husband Sean of Somerville, and Brian Viglione of Hudson N.H. as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Thur. Jan. 13, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Rt. 134 S. Dennis, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Church 126 School St. Taunton, MA 02780 on Fri. Jan 14 at 9:00AM. Interment will be at the Mayflower Cemetery in Taunton.
The family would like to acknowledge the loving care and support of the entire staff at Eagle Pond Rehabilitation and Living Center who made Evelyn’s last year as comfortable as possible. Acknowledgment also goes to the VNA Hospice, Windsor Adult Day Care, Elder Services of Cape Cod and PCA’s Arnel and Gabrielle.
