Born on November 10, 1932, in Providence, Rhode Island, Fred was the beloved son of Frank and Anna Fieldhouse.
Fred shared an extraordinary love story with his wife, Barbara, his elementary school sweetheart and wife of 72 years. Together they built a beautiful life, spending nearly every moment side by side until his final breath.
Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant. During his six years of military service, he served in Germany as a Bridge Specialist and was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and the National Defense Service Medal.
Following his military service, Fred enjoyed a long career with Pratt & Whitney before he and Barbara retired to Cape Cod. Remarkably, Fred spent more years retired than he did working, making the most of every one of them. For many years, he volunteered with the American Red Cross, the Town of Dennis, and the Nam Vets Association of the Cape & Islands, always willing to lend a helping hand.
He loved staying active, whether he was lifting weights, riding his tractor around the yard, or soaking up the sun.
Fred often said the last seven years were some of the best years he could have asked for. “Besides being old,” he would jokingly add. He spent them at home with Barbara under the loving care of their cherished granddaughter, Kelli, whom he affectionately referred to as “Pop’s little girl.” It was a truly special chapter the three of them shared. Every day was an adventure.
If you ever experienced Fred, you knew he was someone special. He was known for his quick wit, unmistakable sass, and ability to make people laugh. He left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Fred is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara; his sons, Frederick Jr. of Enfield CT and Keith of Enfield; his daughter-in-law, Donna of Agawam MA; his granddaughter, Kelli of Dennis; his grandson, Frederick III and his wife, Hayley, of Ellington CT; Jackie of Enfield; his great-grandchildren, Ty, Maya, and Camden; his brother, Frank of Arizona; his late sister-in-law, Eva; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
His family takes comfort in knowing he has been reunited with those who went before him, especially his beloved son, Scott.
In accordance with Fred’s wishes, no formal services will be held. Family and friends will gather at a later date to celebrate a life well lived.
