Jerry was born in Chelsea, MA on August 24, 1927 to Gerald T. and Marie Rose (Thibault) Campbell. He spent two years in the Navy in 1945 and 1946. He married Jean Mary Gleason on June 26, 1954. He completed his undergraduate and graduate work at Boston College and spent 26 years teaching Physics at Milton High School, with 10 of those as Science Department Head for Milton Public Schools. He retired to Cape Cod in 1979 and split his retirement years among the Cape, Florida, and Maine.
Most days, he could be found outside working in his gardens, weather permitting. He also enjoyed fishing, lobstering, playing cribbage, and solving crossword puzzles. He had an uncanny ability to fix almost anything and was successful in building three cottages, from the ground up, on Cape Cod early in his tenure as a long-time Cape Cod resident.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Mary (Gleason), his son and daughter-in-law Paul and Bernadette (Bauer) Campbell, daughter and son-in-law Lisa (Campbell) and Cary Friedman, and daughter and partner Christine (Campbell) Barbour and John Chapman. He also leaves behind grandchildren Michael and Shannon Campbell and Austin and Analisa Friedman.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Cape, Brewster, MA at a date to be determined.
Memorial donations may be made to Dennis Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 332, Dennisport, MA 02646.
