Gloria loved roller skating in her youth. She was very artistic and excelled at interior decorating, often helping others decorate their houses. She treasured her flower gardens, tea parties, and monthly lunches with dear friends. Each year, she looked forward to taking a group on a road trip to enjoy the fall colors.
At a dance at the Seaman’s Club, Gloria saw Gus Gastaldo in his irresistible Navy uniform for the first time. Before they could date, he had to wrestle her dad to show his strength. They got married on February 14, 1953 and were long-time residents of Natick, Massachusetts and later of Dennis on Cape Cod. They had five children, 12 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Gloria and Gus were married 61 years.
Gloria was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the summer of 1963. For many years she hosted a weekly Bible meeting in her home and regularly extended hospitality on “goodie nights,” even inviting past attendees. Gloria loved sharing her Bible-based hope with anyone who would listen. She was overjoyed when, after 43 years, Gus joined her in serving Jehovah.
Three-day weekends on the Cape became a family tradition, including lobster night, Chinese food, and late-night board games. Gloria spent time with her family playing cards, doing jigsaw puzzles, and watching football with Gregg. Friendly’s Jim Dandy sundaes were also a staple. She loved to go to yard sales and would often tell Gus, “Stop the car!” if one was in sight.
Gloria Gastaldo died in Barnstable, Massachusetts on October 17, 2023 at the age of 89. She was predeceased by her parents, Monte Ray and Elizabeth (Stewart) Flagg and her brothers Monte Jr and John Flagg. Her beloved husband, Vincenzo “Gus” Gastaldo, preceded her in death in 2014. She is survived by her children: Gregg Gastaldo and his wife, Cindy (Seekonk); Gina Haynes and her husband Darrell (North Carolina); Gary Gastaldo and his wife, Lori (Arizona); James Gastaldo and his wife, Gilda (Marlborough); and John Gastaldo and his wife Mary Beth (Natick); her grandchildren: Dominic Gastaldo; Joshua, Carl, and Jeremy Provost; Lindsey, John Anthony, and Daniel Gastaldo; Lorenzo and Giovanna Gastaldo; Olivia, Matthew, and Sophia Gastaldo; and eight great-grandchildren.
Her memorial service will be on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 1:00pm ET at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 316 Old Bass River Rd, South Dennis, MA 02660, and on Zoom. We encourage you to add pictures and comments to www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/so-dennis-ma/gloria-gastaldo.
