Harvey Alexander Jr.

Harvey Alexander, Jr., 100, of East Dennis, MA died peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 15, 2020. One of eight children, he was born in Kearney, NJ, the son of the late James Harvey and Helen (Berkley) Alexander. Harvey lived in Madison, NJ before moving to East Dennis, MA 37 years ago.

Sergeant Harvey Alexander, Jr. was a courageous US Army WWII veteran, squad leader and member of the Company B 187th Paraglider Infantry 11th Airborne Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart, 1 Bronze Star to the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. After the war, he finished his degree in accounting at Rutgers University and had a successful career as a CPA. He retired from Colgate-Palmolive in NYC, NY where he worked the majority of his professional career.

Harvey loved his retirement on Cape Cod. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an excellent jumble solver. He was fond of roses and delighted in caring for his vegetable garden at the Dennis Community Garden. Above all else, Harvey was known for his kindness. He was a gentleman’s gentleman.

Harvey is predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy E. (Barbour) Alexander “Dot” (2017) and his adored son-in-law Andrew A. LoSapio (2015). He is survived by his loving children Rev. Donald C. (Karen) Alexander of Dennis, daughter Jane C. LoSapio of Dennis, and Glenn T. (Dina) Alexander of Dennis; his cherished grandchildren Matthew (Sabrina) LoSapio, Jeremiah Alexander, Adrienne (Zachary) Seliga, Christopher LoSapio, Nicholas (Dawn) LoSapio, Benjamin (Jenna) Alexander, Dane (Laura) Alexander, Ethan Alexander, Noah Alexander, Arabella Alexander and Zoe Alexander and his great-grandchildren Sadie Jane LoSapio and Finley Kate LoSapio.

Visiting hours will take place Saturday, September 19th from 10am to 12noon immediately followed by a service at Doane, Beal & Ames, 729 Route 134, S. Dennis, MA 02660. Burial with military honors will take place at Quivet Neck Cemetery in East Dennis.
