

Horst Rudy Schwarzer, condemned to seven years of prison for opposing the East German Communist Regime. Escaped to West Berlin via Check Point Charly in 1957, then flown to West Germany by American Airline.
In 1961 he, along with his wife Hilde, and little son, Rudi immigrated to the United States. They settled in the city of Haverhill, Massachusetts, where he worked as a pastry chef at Bradford College. Their son, Andrew, was born in Haverill.
In 1966, Horst became an American citizen. In 1970, his family moved to Dennisport, Cape Cod, where he worked as a culinary arts – teacher at Upper Cape Vocational, and Cape Cod Technical High School, for 20 years.
In 1974, he started the Cape Cod Bavarian Band, leading it as accordion player to the present.
1970 – 1976 He was the owner of Hilda’s Home Bakery in Dennisport.
In 1977, he founded the German-American Club of Cape Cod.
Between 2002 and 2009, he enjoyed his membership with the Cape Surftone Barbershop singers.
After his wife of 42 years, died of cancer in 2001, he found close friendship and love with Janer Lyon of Mashpee, Cape Cod, that lasted to his end.
As Horst’s sister, I am very proud of him. He was my best friend and big brother. He never thought about himself, but always provided for his family. With his music and his humor, he played into the hearts of people. He never complained, and was a content man. We’ll miss him very much, rest in peace dear brother – His close remaining German family, sister Jutta Danziger, her daughter Marieta, her son Michael and brother Joachim and family. Loving uncle of Marieta and Michael, both of Germany.
Devoted father of Andrew Scharzer of Charlton & Rudi Rennert of Oregon. Grandfather of Rudi Rennert Jr, and Julie Egan. A visitation will be held on Saturday March 24th at the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home 729 Rt 134 S. Dennis from 2-5pm followed by a Family Remembrance at 5pm.
