

James J. Bakun Jr. died suddenly on July 27, 2010 at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sandra (Sluyski) Bakun. He was born in Maynard, MA on Nov. 26, 1935. He graduated from Maynard High School and Waltham Technical with a degree in graphic arts. After a stint in the US Navy aboard the U.S.S Yosemite, he worked for the Lowell Sun, Waltham Tribute, The Natick Bulletin, and the Boston Globe newspapers before entering Raytheon in graphic design.
He retired from Raytheon and moved to Cape Cod in 1994 where he was a sexton for the church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans and the Unitarian church in Brewster.
His last years were spent as a driver for the Community Connections, an organization for the disabled. Jim loved his clients and enjoyed their company, saying it was the best job he ever had.
Jim loved to fish and golf and enjoyed the great outdoors. He also cherished the time spent with family and friends and especially his faithful dog Cody.
Besides his wife Sandra, he leaves a son Peter and, his wife Helena from Little Compton, RI; three daughters, Jean McDonald from Scituate, MA, Julie Bakun from East Boston, MA and Jill Bakun from Brighton, MA; three grandchildren; Grace Bakun, Andrew McDonald, and Molly McDonald; two sisters, Mary Mitzcavitch and Irene Fanning and predeceased sister Helen Smith all of Maynard, MA; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Monday, August 2, 2010 from 8:30am to 10:30am at Doane Beal & Ames, 729 Route 134, S. Dennis, MA. An 11am Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Cape, 468 Stony Brook Rd., Brewster, MA also on Monday August 2, 2010, burial will immediately follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA
