BREWSTER, MA- James Paul Leavitt, 91, died peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Wingate at Brewster Nursing Home with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy T. (Cronin) Leavitt, with whom he celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Born in Boston on July 13, 1926, he was a son of the late William and Charlotte (Foley) Leavitt. James proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during WWII until being honorably discharged in 1946. Prior to his retirement, James spent his career working as an electrical technical writer for the Mitre Corporation.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, golfing and reading. James was an ordained deacon and served at Our Lady of the Cape in Brewster.

In addition to his wife, he is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, William Leavitt and his wife Jean of Stoneham, Mary Petersen and her husband Richard of Greenfield, and Susan Schneider and her husband Bruce of Brewster; a daughter in law, Holly Leavitt of Tewksbury; and eight grandchildren, as well as two great-grandchildren.

James was predeceased by his son, James Leavitt.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on FRIDAY, January 26th from 9 to 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Cape Parish, 468 Stony Brook Rd., Brewster, MA 02631. His Funeral Mass will directly follow inside the church at 11 a.m. A committal service with military honors will take place at 1:30 p.m. in MA National Veterans Cemetery, Bourne.
