YARMOUTH PORT - Joelle LeClair Whitmarsh died Oct. 19 at McCarthy Care
Center in E. Sandwich, Mass. She was 67 years old. A breast cancer
survivor, Mrs. Whitmarsh succumbed after a year-long battle with
thyroid cancer.
Mrs. Whitmarsh was born in New York City on May 17, 1946. The daughter
of a U.S. Foreign Service officer, Mrs. Whitmarsh spent her early
years abroad and was educated in schools in France, Lebanon, India and
the U.S.
Mrs. Whitmarsh was a registered nurse for 30 years. She spent the
majority of her nursing career as an ER, ICU and med-surg nurse at
Cape Cod Hospital; Norwood Hospital, Norwood, Mass.; and Monadnock
Community Hospital, Peterborough, N.H. Most recently, she worked as a
travel nurse and a home health nurse. She became a board-certified
aesthetician in 2012.
Mrs. Whitmarsh is survived by her husband John of 44 years; two
daughters, Elizabeth Frattasio of Hanover, Mass. and Claire Gold of
Norwood, Mass.; two sisters, Amelia LeClair of Newton, Mass. and
Laurie LeClair of Seattle, Wash.; a brother Amory LeClair of Ottawa,
Canada; and five grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4-6 pm on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the
Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134 in South Dennis. A
funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at
St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Barnstable, Mass. Burial in Middletown,
R.I. will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be
made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tenn., St.
Mary’s Episcopal Church, Barnstable, Mass.; the McCarthy Care Center,
E. Sandwich, Mass.; or the Salvation Army.
