

John J. Dinda, Jr., 81, of Brewster, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, following a brief illness. Born on April 22, 1945, in New Britain, Connecticut, John was the son of the late John J. Dinda, Sr. and Helen M. Dinda (Piatek). He grew up alongside his brother Bobby Dinda, forming the bonds of family that would remain central throughout his life.
On August 10, 1968, John married Linda, the love of his life. Together, they began their journey in Plainville, Connecticut, where they built a loving home. John and Linda raised their son, Kevin, and embraced the joy of grandparenthood with their granddaughter, Kayleigh. To say Kayleigh was his world would be an understatement. John is survived by his granddaughter Kayleigh Dinda, her mother and step-father, Lenice and Peter Tripputi of East Haddam, Connecticut, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Stephen and Peggy Theroux of New London, New Hampshire, one aunt, several cousins, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Linda, his brother Bobby, his son Kevin, and granddaughter Ava Lynn.
John graduated from Pulaski High School, New Britain, Connecticut in 1963, and soon after enlisted in the United States Navy, serving for four years. His commitment to service continued when he joined the New Britain Fire Department, dedicating himself to the safety of the community from 1967 until his retirement in 2000 as Fire Marshal.
John's passion for fire protection extended further as he joined the Connecticut Air Force Air National Guard 103rd Civil Engineer Fire Fighting Department. Over a remarkable 35-year career, he rose to become the Fire Chief and retired in 2005 with the rank of Staff Master Sergeant. His leadership, courage, and steadfast commitment to duty left a lasting impact on all who served alongside him.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Doane Beal & Ames, 729 Route 134, South Dennis, Massachusetts, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 20, 2026. A Memorial Mass will follow at Our Lady of the Cape, 468 Stony Brook Road, Brewster, Massachusetts at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at the Bourne National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, Massachusetts immediately following the Mass.
John J. Dinda, Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his distinguished career in fire protection, and his honorable military service. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, the community he served, and the family who loved him dearly.
