Leonard James Gates Jr.

Leonard James Gates, Jr., 77, passed away at Cape Cod Hospital on Saturday December 24th. He was born in June of 1939 to the late Leonard James Sr. and Dorothy (Schuster) Gates in Wellfleet, MA. Lenny grew up in Wellfleet and later moved to Hyannis a couple years before meeting his wife. They then moved to Brewster, MA where they raised their children, and later moving to S. Yarmouth in the year 2000. He worked in the banking industry for most of his life starting when he graduated high school, at First International bank in Wellfleet then to The Cooperative bank of Cape Cod in Hyannis, where he met his wife of 42 years Katherine. He then started working at John Hancock Insurance in Sandwich, MA. After retirement he was a night auditor at Gull Wing in S. Yarmouth. He enjoyed many sports such as Golf, football, and baseball. He was a people person and was loved by many, but most of all he loved being with his family. Lenny is survived by his wife Katherine (Baker) Gates, his daughters; Jennifer Lee Metcalf and her husband B.J of NY, and Sharon Marie Gates of MT. Two granddaughters Michelle Metcalf, and Melissa Metcalf. Two sisters; Dorothy Burgess of FL, and Diane Gates of MT. One brother; Ronald Gates and his wife Donna of Wellfleet, MA. He is also survived by many nieces, and nephews. A visitation will be held on Saturday December 31, 2016 from 10-12PM at Doane, Beal & Ames in S. Dennis 729 Route 134. A graveside service will follow at Ancient Way Cemetery in Yarmouth, MA at 1PM.
