Brewster, MA – Mary Rose (Driscoll) Hermann, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2013 after a long illness. She is survived by Ralph, her loving husband of 58 years. Mary was born in Boston in 1932 to David Ignatius and Theresa Hogan Driscoll. Always one to strive in her academics, she graduated with honors from Girls Latin School in 1949, and later graduated Magna Cum Laude from Regis College in 1953. Upon graduation from college, Mary became one of the first women to enter into the engineering profession, working first for General Electric in Pittsfield and then at the first computer lab at MIT. While nothing was ever more important to her than her family, after having four children, she returned to work in 1973 in the computer field employed first by her alma mater Regis College, followed by successful stints at Air Force Base, Cambridge Research Lab, Foxboro Company and finally Raytheon where she retired in 1994 as a Senior Software Engineer and Project Manager. In retirement, Mary was a mathematics tutor to countless Harwich High School Students and enjoyed her role as both the Treasurer of the Brewster Garden Club and president of her neighborhood association.
Mary had an outgoing and caring personality and always had a smile on her face. With her effortless sense of style, she shared her many talents with everyone who had the good fortune of crossing paths with her. She was always enthusiastically ready to listen to others, offering her words of wisdom, encouragement and creative solutions to all.
Her sharp wit, strong opinions, and kindness will be sadly missed. Besides her husband, she is survived by Dr. James (Janine) of Rochester NY, Mary Ellen of Taunton, John (Frances) of Shanghai, China, and Patricia Hart and fiancé Matt Hendison of Cohasset. She is also survived by her wonderful grandchildren, Emily and Caitlin Hermann and Cailey and Noel Hart.
