Marylou was born to Walter and Mary Driscoll in Concord, Massachusetts. Upon graduation from Concord High School in 1956, she completed a three year intensive nursing program at Henry Hayward Memorial Hospital Nursing School. She worked at Newton Wellesley hospital, then moved to San Francisco to work in one of the country’s first emergency rooms. She also spent time in Europe working as a midwife and floor nurse.
In 1964, Marylou met her future husband, Weston Monks. They married on April 24, 1965 and began their lives together in Acton, MA. In 1970, the young couple relocated to Brewster when Weston was transferred for his job with the phone company. They raised their four daughters in the home they built together and resided there the rest of their lives. During these years, Marylou worked as a substitute school and private duty nurse which allowed her the flexibility to always put her family first. Marylou and Weston shared 56 wonderful years together before Weston passed away in 2021.
Marylou was a woman of great faith which was the center of her personal and family life. As a child she was very active in her family’s parish, Saint Bernards. She attended daily Mass, assisted with parish collections, and helped keep the sacristy and linens clean. Upon moving to Brewster, she became a member of Our Lady of the Cape Parish. She attended daily Mass, volunteered with the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, helped organize Thanksgiving and
Christmas dinners, organized a prayer hotline, and led First Friday Adoration Devotion at both Our Lady of the Cape and Holy Trinity in Harwich. Marylou had a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother and hosted a weekly rosary group in her home. Additionally, she participated in parish Christmas shopping events for children and pro life activities.
Both Marylou and her late husband were loving, generous parents and grandparents who always had time for their daughters and grandchildren. They were kind and generous neighbors, always willing to help anyone in need with their gifts of skill, kindness, generosity, and love.
Marylou loved gardening and hosting parties, and her door was always open to family and neighbors. She never turned anyone away. In her later years she could be counted on to be sitting on her front porch to wave and smile at all who passed by.
Marylou is survived by her four devoted daughters and 15 loving grandchildren: Lauren and Terry Doucette, and their children Weston, Catherine, Mary, and Sarah of Brewster, MA; Alison and John Collins, and their children John, Nathaniel, and Mac of North Eastham, MA; Courtney and Andrew Giovinazzi, and their children Enzo, Dominic, and Lydia of West Bath, ME; and Stacy and Digby Veevers-Carter, and their children George, Oliver, Benjamin, Helen, and James, also of West Bath, ME. She is predeceased by three siblings Walter, David, and Paul Driscoll and survived by her siblings John Driscoll of Centerville, Elizabeth Kean and Jeanne Fusner of Anchorage, AK, and more than 20 nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held Friday, August 1st, from 10:00am to 10:45am, in Our Lady of the Cape Church, 468 Stony Brook Rd, Brewster, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held immediately following at 11:00am in the Church. A Committal Service will be held at 12:30pm, following the Funeral Mass, in Brewster Cemetery, Lower Rd, Brewster.
