Mary Patricia “Mae” Murray ( Ferguson), of Dennis, Massachusetts and Hernando, Florida passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026 surrounded by family. She was born on December 26, 1931, in Somerville, Massachusetts, to the late Henry and Bridget Ferguson.
Mary’s life was marked by a deep commitment to education, professional excellence, and cherished time with loved ones. She graduated from St. Mary of the Assumption High School in Brookline, MA, and went on to earn both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Northeastern University in Boston.
Her distinguished career as a Technical Writer spanned many decades and reflected her dedication to clarity, precision, and leadership. Mary served as the manager of Corporate Technical Publications at EG&G before continuing her work as a Technical Writer and Proposal Manager for URS Corporation. She also spent many years as an Independent Consultant and Federal Contractor, contributing her expertise across numerous projects with diligence and professionalism.
Mary found great joy in spending time with her husband, Doug and their family and friends. She had a passion for traveling that took her and Doug on adventures all over the world. She was especially fond of her trips to Ireland and cherished the time there visiting family. A lifelong reader with a love for literature, she also enjoyed sewing and knitting.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Douglas Murray; her sisters Geraldine Burns (the late Neil Burns) of Scituate, MA and Ann Jones (Fred Jones) of Dennis, MA; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins who were dear to her heart.
In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her brother Charles Ferguson (Margaret “Peg” Ferguson).
A Funeral Mass will be held on January 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Cape Church, 468 Stony Brook Road, Brewster, MA. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery - Yarmouth Port.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Our Lady of the Cape or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
