Mary Barbara Ward

Barbara was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts on November 4, 1922, the daughter of Richard and Theresa (Olson) Vale. She lived in Gloucester until she and Jim married Dec. 1, 1945. They lived in Peabody where they raised their three children. Barbara was the office manager at Sunburst Fruit Juices in Salem, MA for just over 25 years. Then in 1987 they retired to Dennis on Cape Cod.

Barbara was an avid golfer and played into her 80s. Barbara and Jim also enjoyed many visits to Florida where they could continue to play golf in the winter. She was a member of Our Lady of the Cape church in Brewster and a member of their choir. She particularly enjoyed reading novels and volunteered at the South Dennis Free Public Library for several years. The past several years Barbara lived at Epoch/Wingate in Brewster and Harwich.

Barbara was predeceased by her sister Virginia Nicholson of Gloucester. She is survived by her sister Jeanne Martin of Gloucester and her brother Richard Vale of Texas

She leaves three children, her son Richard Ward and his wife Beverly of Hampton NH, son Leonard Ward and wife Sandra of Wallace NC and her daughter Ellen Turcketta and husband Thomas of Brewster. She is also survived by grandson, Eric Ward and granddaughter, Vanessa Ward.

Visitation will be from 11am till 12noon, Monday January 8th in the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Rte.134, South Dennis. Followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:30pm in Our Lady of the Cape, 468 Stony Brook Road, Brewster. Burial will be held in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Route 134, South Dennis.
