Born on January 23, 1948, he was the son of the late James and Geraldine (Tappen) O’Toole.
He graduated from North Shore High School in Glen Head, NY in 1965. He then attended the State University of New York at Canton and later graduated from the State University of New York in Oswego with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts in 1969. He did graduate work at SUNY Stony Brook and Hofstra University.
While attending SUNY Oswego, Michael met Jean Fischette. They were married on April 14, 1973.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict.
Michael taught Industrial Arts in Hyde Park and Locust Valley, NY. He then moved on to work for Automotive Testing Laboratories and Colorado State University’s National Center for Vehicle Emission Control. Michael later retired from the State of Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment as an Air Quality Specialist in Mobile Sources where he was often honored for excellence in his field of work including a special recognition from the Governor of the state for his contributions to the cause of better air quality. As a retiree, he worked for Hi-Line Cruises of Hyannis. He especially loved this job because it allowed him to be on the water. Michael often joked that he had better balance on the boat than he did on land.
Michael’s great loves included his dogs, motorcycles, automobiles and racing vintage Porches on race tracks throughout the state of Colorado with his wife. He enjoyed boating and sailing. He built several wooden boats. Most of all, he cherished the time he shared with his wife, Jean.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Barbara Jean Talton, his father in law, Arthur Fischette and his mother in law, Rose Fischette.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Jean O’Toole of Dennis; his brother, J. Brian O’Toole and his wife, Ginny of Yarmouth Port; his sister, Kathleen Shaddock and her husband, Wayne of Cape Coral, FL; his brother in law, Dennis Fischette and his wife, Grace of Clyde, NY; his sister in law, Barbara Lewis and her husband, William of Titusville, FL; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134 in South Dennis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Our Lady of the Cape Church, 468 Stony Brook Road, West Brewster, MA 02631.
