Patricia Ann Shanahan

Patricia Ann (Long) Shanahan, 88, of Centerville peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 21st with her family by her side. She was born in Cambridge on March 17, 1935 to the late John and Helen Long. She grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School. As a young woman, Patricia enjoyed working as a secretary in Cambridge and Boston. On February 11, 1955, she happily married her late husband, William Henry Shanahan Jr. at St. Agnes Church in Arlington. After residing in a few homes, they found their forever home in South Dennis in 1970. She loved raising her children, celebrating holidays with her family, working, reading the newspaper and family vacations. Patricia truly touched everyone she met with kindness and sincerity. She especially loved celebrating her St. Patrick’s Day birthday and was known as the Polish Princess. Patricia was predeceased by her sisters Rita Dobbs Winslow and Barbara Fallon. She is survived by her three children, Brian Shanahan and wife Kathy of Centerville, Maura Shanahan of West Barnstable and Keara Shanahan of Centerville. She always created special memories for all 8 of her grandchildren, Talia Shanahan, Leighann Santaniello, Katey Shanahan, Molly Shanahan, Maeve Shanahan, William Shanahan, Madeline Gomes and Shelby Gomes. Patricia also had 3 great-grandchildren, Colton, Ellie and Luna. She will also be missed by many beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Broad Reach Hospice, 390 Orleans Rd., North Chatham, MA 02650.

There will be a gathering from 8:30-10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in South Dennis on Rt. 134. Followed by an 11:00 AM Mass at Our Lady of the Cape in Brewster on Stoney Brook Rd. and burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Dennis. The Shanahan family would like to invite all to a reception at Chapin’s Restaurant in Dennis at 1:00 PM.
