Phil was born in Dansville, New York, on August 7, 1944 to the late Walter and Margaret Griswold. One of seven children, the family relocated to Harwich when Phil was a child. Phil graduated from Barnstable High School in 1964.
A talented mechanic, Phil's love of cars began at an early age and he was happiest when tinkering with an engine. His work ethic was unparalleled. By 18, he had purchased the service station where he had been working since age 15. Perched at the corner of Route 28 and Upper County Road, Dennisport Mobil would become a renowned landmark for locals and summer visitors for decades to come. Phil made everyone who stopped at Dennisport Mobil feel like he was going to take special care of them, and he did.
Phil is survived by his six children John, Joanne, Janice, Noël, Danny, and Craig; nine grandchildren Michael, Megan, Nicholas, Samantha, Eric, Morgan, Brianna, Emaly, and Olivia; great grandchildren; siblings Rose, Alice, Ruth, Bill; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers Walter (Bobby) and Joseph.
Phil was a true dog whisperer and will be buried with the remains of his loving dog, Annie, who never left his side and alway brought a smile to his face. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MSPCA Cape Cod.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134, South Dennis. A private burial will follow.
