Bob is survived by his children: Michael (Kathleen), Mark (Maggie), Bruce (Mary), Brian, and Wendy (Larry); sister Jean, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, devoted partner Jan Bogardus, relatives, and friends. Bob was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Ann “Bunny” McKenney.
Bob was a longtime resident of Braintree and Dennis. He was born in Boston’s Hyde Park during the Great Depression; boyhood memories include receiving a comic book for Christmas and searching for pieces of coal on the railroad tracks with his father. Bob graduated from Weymouth High School in 1949; he then took a job for $1.00 an hour to build homes in Hull. Bob was drafted into the Army in 1952 and ended his active military service as a Corporal and Radio Operator in 1954. He married Barbara in 1954 and was employed as a carpenter and cabinetmaker for Ray Mucci Kitchens of Brockton. In 1959 Bob decided to go into business for himself, providing kitchen and bath remodels across the South Shore, from his workshop in the Braintree family home. Bob worked with many skilled tradespeople over the years, including a close partnership with Bill Shea of Bill Shea’s Formica in Quincy. Bob and Barbara moved to Cape Cod in 1987; they found a home at Brewster Baptist Church where they worshipped and served for many years. Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory, example, and love of the piano will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and church.
Burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on August 6, 2026. A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held on August 7, 2026, 11 AM, at the Brewster Baptist Church, 1848 Main St., Rte. 6A, Brewster.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bob’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
